Hands-Only CPR

Do you know the simple steps of Hands-Only CPR? Hands-Only CPR training teaches valuable lifesaving skills that can prepare you to properly respond to a cardiac event. A cardiac arrest is when the heart’s electrical system malfunctions. The heart stops beating properly when its pumping function is “arrested” or stopped. CPR, especially if performed immediately, could double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. Hands-Only CPR Training focuses on the first few minutes following a cardiac arrest. Bystander CPR can make all the difference in survival. This course, presented by Lt. Irvin Smith of Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, is designed to train the public to help before first responders arrive on the scene. This course is for general awareness and does not provide any certification, recertification, or license.

Presenter Biographical Information:

A lifelong Montgomery County resident, Lieutenant Irvin Smith was born and raised in Poolesville and has dedicated more than 20 years to serving his community through the fire service. Currently, he serves as a Lieutenant with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, where his career has included leadership roles with the EEO/Diversity Team and Community Engagement Team, as well as his current role as Community Action Coordinator.

His work focuses on building meaningful relationships with residents, community leaders, county agencies, and community organizations while providing targeted prevention and education programs, including CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, and opioid overdose prevention. I am passionate about strengthening community resilience, expanding access to lifesaving education, and ensuring that all Montgomery County residents have the opportunity to be safe and prepared.
