Tour of Boyds Negro School

Join us for a step back into history in touring the Boyds Negro School. This school is located in the historic "White Grounds" Black Community. The tour will provide a brief history of the founding of the school and describe the features that were present during it operation from 1896 to 1936. Purchased by Boyds Historical Society in the 1970s, this school was restored based on accounts from individuals who attended the school. The school represents an important piece of history in the education of Black children in a rural, Maryland community. Please park in the Taylor School parking lot across the street.  Be careful crossing the road as this is an area with a curve.  Please note that there are no toilet facilities available during this tour as there is no running water at the school.  Also, if using a wheelchair or walker, you will need to navigate over some grass or dirt.  Tickets are limited. If you are unable to join us on this date, the school is open by appointment and also on the third Sunday of each month from 2:00 – 4:00 pm from April to November.
